TeraXion reports contract win Automated fiber grating manufacturing system to be developed for international research institute

QUEBEC CITY, Canada - June 28, 2004 - TeraXion, a technology leader in the development of advanced optical components for high-speed communications networks, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to design and deliver an automated fiber grating development system to the Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute of India.

The automated system will be used to rapidly prototype advanced fiber optic grating designs in support of the institute's research into novel telecommunication and sensing components. "TeraXion's system will allow us to begin writing sophisticated gratings much sooner than if we had assembled and optimized a system of our own," said Dr. H. S. Maiti, Director of the Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute. Pierre Bernard, Vice President of Product Development at TeraXion added that, "not only are they acquiring a flexible turnkey solution but they are also benefiting from TeraXion's extensive experience in the development of advanced fiber gratings."

TeraXion is currently exploring a number of options regarding the wider commercialization of the automated fiber grating development system. Discussions are currently underway with potential channel and marketing partners.

"We have been actively seeking new ways to leverage our internal expertise in grating design and manufacturing," stated Alain Chandonnet, Chief Executive Officer of TeraXion. "This contract is a strong validation of our position as the leading commercial authority on fiber gratings."

Fiber gratings, and short period Bragg gratings in particular, remain an area of great interest for research and development. Fiber gratings are suited for use in a wide array of photonics applications including fiber optic communication, lasers, amplifiers, and physical parameter sensing.
