Two of the key performance measures of an optical instrument measuring optical signal wavelength are its accuracy, and its ability to maintain it  over a long period of time. The way to achieve this accuracy and stability over time is through a highly stable optical frequency reference embedded in the instrument, in combination with software driven self calibration procedures. Due to the fact that TeraXion’s FSL laser module is locked to a gas molecule, it makes it a perfect fit for this application. Considering its long life expectancy and its ruggedness, TeraXion’s FSL can advantageously replace HeNe lasers commonly used as embedded reference in a wide variety of  scientific instruments.
