OBC/OBS systems

The use of Ocean Bottom Cables (also called Ocean Bottom Seismic systems) is emerging as a highly cost-effective way to monitor in real time offshore oil reservoirs. Considering the harsh environment, passive optical sensors such as hydrophones and accelerometers appear to be the most practical approach to get a long life expectancy, at an affordable cost. TeraXion’s PS-NLL, with its wide operation temperature range, insensitivity to vibration, long life expectancy, low phase noise, high coherence length, compactness and affordable cost is one of the best suited laser sources to be used in the interrogation units within these systems.

In-well seismic sensing systems

Nowadays, permanently installed “in-well” temperature, pressure, flow and seismic monitoring systems follow a well established trend in the oil & gas industry. The resulting “intelligent wells” provide the ability to extract more oil than it would be possible from a non-monitored reservoir. Due to the extremely high temperature and pressure conditions found in typical wells, optic-based accelerometers are best suited to survive the harsh conditions of the well. TeraXion’s PS-NLL, with its wide operation temperature range, insensitivity to vibration, long life expectancy, low phase noise, high coherence length and affordable cost is one of the best suited laser sources to be used in interrogation units of these systems.

Wind survey systems

Finding the best spots where to place electricity producing windmills is an extremely important task; this can make the difference between a profitable installation and another that is not. One of the most cost-effective ways to make wind surveys at potential wind farm sites is to use portable LIDAR-based equipment. Depending on the specific LIDAR topology used, TeraXions PS-LM or PS-NLL are two of the best suited laser sources to use to get an affordable, reliable and dependable system.
