Ocean bottom seismic sensing systems
OBS systems based on optical sensors and interferometric interrogators appear to be providing the best performances and reliability level for this application. OBS systems require a massive number of 4C stations that are interrogated by a large number of narrow linewidth lasers. To fulfil the requirements of this application, TeraXion offers the PS-MNLL system, which is a compact rack mountable unit that includes 8 or 10 NLL lasers tuned at different wavelengths. The lasers embedded in the PS-MNLL provide the high coherence length, the exceptionally low level of phase noise, the high level of immunity to vibration, and the ruggedness necessary to cope with highly demanding OBS system applications requirements.

In-well seismic sensing systems
Nowadays, considering the cost of finding new petroleum sources, it becomes extremely attractive to optimize the extraction processes in order to get the maximum out of each petroleum well. One technology that is aimed at doing that is the down-hole seismic monitoring, which kind of provides a real-time view of what’s going on in the oil reservoir. Based on the fact that electronic sensors can hardly survive more than a few days in the harsh conditions normally found in a well, optic was proven out as the most relevant technology for this application. This is where TeraXion’s PS-NLL comes to the rescue; with its long coherence length, low phase noise and high reliability, it is the ideal laser source to be used in the interrogation unit of these systems.

Wind survey systems
Finding the best spots where to place electricity producing windmills is an extremely important task; this is the small thing that can make the difference between a profitable installation and another that is not. One of the most cost effective ways to make wind surveys is to use portable LIDAR-based equipment. A good LIDAR starts with a good laser module. For this application, depending on the specific LIDAR topology used, TeraXion’s PS-LM or PS-NLL are 2 units providing the best cost vs. performance ratio of the industry.
